As a Psychologist I tend to be less symptom focussed and more person focussed, meaning that I value the unique complexities inherent in being human and the individual blueprint of experience that curates our sense of self. In therapy I aim to enhance self-understanding as a tool to foster personal growth through times of adversity. I mainly draw on a narrative approach, which simply put, explores the meaning that we make through the stories that we create and tell about ourselves and our worlds. Through a process of uncovering these stories, I provide guidance on how to recognise and re-author those that may be the source of pain or distress. My central theoretical orientation is mindful based therapy.
I apply these same principles for sexual health and wellness sessions. I also work hand in hand with a group of trusted colleagues in the medical fraternity who specialise in various areas of sexual health to bring you the most holistic options for healing in this area.
I offer in person sessions in my rooms in Sea Point, Cape Town, or online sessions via zoom. Sessions are 50 minutes long. Whether you are looking for general psychology or sexology sessions, a therapy space is one in which you must feel totally comfortable. As therapists, we all work in different ways, so the initial consult is essentially a getting to know each other session. I like to stress that there is no obligation to continue to work with me after this initial consult. We can decide together if you feel that this is the right space for you. In fact, it is of utmost importance to me that you feel that the way that I work resonates with you before we continue in the longer term.
I trained as a Clinical Psychologist at Stellenbosch University for Masters, Lentegeur hospital for internship and Helen Joseph hospital for Community Service. Further to this I have obtained a certification in Sexology through the European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM). I am also certified with the World Professional Association for Transgedner health (WAPTH) to offer gender affirming therapy. I am currently completing my PhD in Public Health at UCT which focusses in the intersection of race and class in the provision of services to HIV positive adolescent females in Southern Africa.
